I adore this little smocked dress. The symbolism or imagery or irony or fact of God’s children as sheep never ceases to amaze me. I grew up listening to sheep stories my father told, and it still gets me, every-time. Needless to say, when I found this little dress, Mallory had to have it.
Perhaps the only literature I read in collage that spoke to me was this William Blake poem. It seems to fit my lamb theme today.
The Lamb
Poem lyrics of The Lamb by William Blake.
Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life, and bid thee feed,
By the stream and o’er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
Little Lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee,
Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee.
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a Lamb.
He is meek, and He is mild;
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
Little Lamb, God bless thee!
Little Lamb, God bless thee!
Thanks for my educational moment of the day:)That dress is cute and I love the lamb imagery. I love the fact that we are ‘pulled in’ close by our shepherd…no matter how far our little feet might wander.
So can mini-sponge recite Blake’s poem back to you yet?
I am a sheep and the Lord is my Shepherd
Watching over my soul!
Aw, man. Can’t remember the next phrase. But then,
And when the WIND blows, He is my shelter,
And when I’m lost and alone, He rescues me,
And when the lion comes, He is my victory
Constantly watching over me.

I’m also thinking, Man, that’s a lot of white thread.
